The Online Safety Commission (OSC) has revealed that Suva City accounted for the highest number of online safety-related reports in June 2025, with a total of 42 cases received during the month.
The data, released on September 17, highlights reporting trends from different towns and cities across Fiji, including international and anonymous submissions.
Top reporting locations were Suva City: 42 reports (33.07%), Lautoka City: 17 reports (13.39%), Nadi Town: 15 reports (11.81%), Nausori Town: 14 reports (11.02%), Nasinu, Ba, and Unknown Locations: 6 reports each (4.72%), Labasa and Other/International: 5 reports each (3.94%), Navua: 4 reports (3.15%), Tavua: 2 reports (1.57%) and Sigatoka and Savusavu: 1 report each (0.79%)
The figures show that urban centres are leading in reporting incidents, possibly due to higher internet penetration, greater digital engagement, and increased public awareness.
Nearly half of all complaints it received in June 2025 were linked to Facebook.
A total of 62 reports (48.82%) were related to Facebook, far surpassing other platforms. This was followed by TikTok with 24 reports (18.90%), while Instagram and Messenger each had 9 reports (7.09%).
Online bullying remained the most common type of report it received in June 2025, accounting for nearly 39% of all complaints submitted to the Commission that month.
According to a detailed breakdown of the nature of reports received Online Bullying: 49 reports (38.58%), Fake Accounts: 20 reports (15.75%), Defamatory Comments/Posts: 15 reports (11.81%) and other: 14 reports (11.02%)
The OSC noted that the prevalence of fake accounts and impersonation also continues to be a concern, especially in cases linked to harassment, fraud, or identity misuse.
