THE Fiji under-18 rugby side applied the finishing touches to their preparations with a final training session at Marist Brothers High School in Flagstaff, Suva on Saturday before they left for Australia yesterday.

Head coach Peniona Ranitu said the team had followed every aspect of their preparations.

“This is the last training session so we are wrapping up all our preparation and according to plan, we have managed to cover every aspect of our game, every detail of our planning for the game but the test is yet to come,” Ranitu said on Saturday.

The team will face the Brumbies under-18 rugby team in the lead-up to their match against the Australian under-18 side.

“We’ll see how they have prepared, see how they played and from there, then we will work on for our test against the Australian schoolboys,” he shared.

And with the team now in Australia and preparing for those matches, he said the team culture had evolved into one of compassion amongst the players who came from various schools.

“Lots of veilomani, lots of sharing. We have lotu (church service) at 7pm before we have dinner and in the morning when they wake up before they have breakfast.

“So the culture is to be realistic, be normal, just be yourself and follow all the rules and regulations that are set up by the team management.”

On Sunday, the team had a church service at Suva Grammar School where the families of the players were invited to come over and spend time with them before they left for Nadi later that day for their flight to Australia yesterday.

The Fiji under-18 schoolboys will face their Australian opponents at the Viking Park in Canberra, Australia on Monday, September 29 and Saturday, October 4.
