Fiji Airways plans to increase Dallas flights

Fiji Airways will increase its Dallas-Fort Worth flights to four times a week early next year, as the national carrier continues to strengthen its presence in the lucrative U.S. market.

The announcement comes as the airline celebrates a major milestone, becoming the smallest carrier by fleet size (just 14 aircraft) to break into the global top 10 at the 2025 APEX Passenger Choice Awards.

Speaking at the APEX/Future Travel Experience conference on September 10, outgoing CEO Andre Viljoen said the U.S. holds the most promising growth potential for the airline.

“We pretty much don’t see much growth out of Australia and New Zealand, but we see a massive opportunity in the U.S.,” said Mr Viljoen, in an interview with Travel Weekly.

While the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand account for 90% of Fiji Airways’ traffic, the U.S. alone makes up 20%. More than 95% of the airline’s business is inbound leisure travel, mainly tourists flying to Fiji.

Fiji Airways is the only airline offering direct, nonstop flights between the U.S. and Fiji, currently flying to four American cities: Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Dallas-Fort Worth.

Los Angeles remains the airline’s biggest U.S. destination with daily flights, but Viljoen said Dallas offers the greatest potential for future expansion.

The airline only launched Dallas service in December last year, initially with three flights per week.

Fiji Airways’ membership in the Oneworld Alliance since April 1, and its growing partnership with American Airlines, including a loyalty program tie-up, are helping it target more connecting passengers through Dallas, a key hub for American.

“We have a massive partner that is happy to have us in Dallas offering an exotic destination for their loyalty program,” Mr Viljoen said.

Looking ahead, Viljoen also hinted at possible new U.S. routes, with Seattle on the radar—potentially leveraging Oneworld partner Alaska Airlines to support that expansion.
