Heineken Wan Fire Music Festival marks a turning point for Fiji’s music and arts. Spinning Village, the company presenting Fiji’s first-ever show of its kind, said Fiji has carried a quiet stigma in the music and entertainment industry for years.
“We often looked outward, filling our playlists with English hits, supporting international artists, and believing that big, world-class festivals only happened overseas. But a new wave of Fijian music has begun to rewrite that story. Groups like VT1S, Inside Out, The Gang, and Spectrum have spearheaded a movement that has made us listen differently.
“They’ve reminded us that Fijian music isn’t just powerful— it’s catchy, soulful, modern, and every bit as addictive as the English songs we once thought were the standard,” the company stated.
“Today, more Fijians are turning up the volume on homegrown tracks, proud to hear their own stories in their own voices and languages. Fiji has become home to thousands of Pacific Islanders who have built lives here, yet, too often, our cultures sit side by side without truly connecting.
“That’s where music comes in. It is the one language that speaks to us all, the spark that can form what we call a ring of fire—or, in this case, Wan Fire: a circle of unity, pride, and belonging. Many in Fiji grew up listening to Tonton Malélé, Jahboy, and ONETOX long before they ever dreamed of seeing them perform live. Their music carried the voices of the Solomons, Papuans, and beyond—voices that shaped the soundtrack of island life. Now, for the first time, these artists will share the same stage with Fiji’s own rising stars.
On Saturday, September 27, Buckhurst Park in Suva will become the flame at the center of that circle. The Heineken Wan Fire Music Festival brings together global Pacific icons like Stan Walker and others. This concert is proof that Fiji can host the kind of world-class festivals we once thought only happened overseas, while also creating a platform for cultural connection that runs deeper than the music.
“For Fiji, this concert is more than one night of entertainment. It’s a challenge to the old stigma that arts are ‘not serious here. It’s a celebration of our ability to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Pacific and the world. And it’s a chance for every Fijian, and every islander who now calls Fiji home, to gather in one circle—one fire, one song. Tickets are available now at Ticketmax.com.fj.
