From the Babasiga Town of Labasa to the FMF Hibiscus Festival platform, Shyna Lata is confident of a successful event that will benefit everyone.

The admin officer of Shop N Save Supermarket in Nabua will be one of the eight contestants vying for the Hibiscus Crown.

“This festival will benefit all because children and families will enjoy themselves, the senior citizens will have a chance to go out at night and it will be a hype of activities for all,” she said.

She attended Bethel Primary School and Labasa Sangam College and is sponsored by Yue Lai Hotel.

“I would like to raise the voices of women and promote the importance of empowering them because they shape their families and communities,” Ms Lata said.

“Some women’s voices are not heard some remain silent while others make a great effort to promote our issues and make an impact.

“This opportunity provides me a great way to share more stories about our mothers, our sisters and the importance of providing them opportunities of education.”

Ms Lata said ensuring women’s health and rights was also important.

“Women should be given opportunities in leadership roles including companies, boards and government departments,” she said.

“We need to encourage ourselves to vote for more women to get into Parliament because they can make a change for us and our issues.”

Ms Lata is a Fiji National University graduate having completed her studies in Hospitality and Management. She loves socialising with people, cooking and making new friends.
