A fire truck at the Rarawai mill today – BALJEET SINGH

The Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited (FSC) has confirmed that operations at the Rarawai Mill in Ba have been suspended after a fire broke out at the mill’s powerhouse, causing extensive damage to sections of the facility.

FSC Chief Executive Officer Bhan Singh reassured the public that “all employees are safe, and no injuries have been reported.”

The National Fire Authority (NFA) and Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) are investigating the cause of the blaze and assessing the full extent of the damage.

“A detailed report will be provided upon the conclusion of these assessments,” Singh added.

In the meantime, FSC has redirected all lorry drivers initially dispatched to Rarawai to the Lautoka Mill.

“Lorries within the sector will also be advised to proceed directly to the Lautoka Mill to ensure continuity of supply and to minimise disruption to farmers and stakeholders,” Singh said.

FSC expressed appreciation for the rapid response of emergency services and committed to keeping stakeholders and the public informed as more information becomes available.
