The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry has confirmed a fire broke out at the Rarawai Sugar Mill in Ba at around 11.30am today.
The National Fire Authority is currently on site working to contain the fire, with initial reports indicating that the blaze originated from the power house.
“The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) and the National Fire Authority (NFA) are actively engaged in preventing the fire from spreading further. The priority is the safety of the people and the workers at the site,” said a Ministry statement.
The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh, has been briefed on the situation and the Ministry is in close contact with FSC mill management.
The Ministry said further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
