TWO police officers who were arrested last Friday for their alleged involvement in the unlawful importation and possession of 4.7 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine have been further remanded in custody.

Sevuloni Lubi, 43, and Ratu Lote Lewaivanua, 31, appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele at the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Mr Lewaivanua is also alleged to have been found in possession of $650, suspected to be proceeds of crime, on September 12.

Both men informed the court they had children reliant on them, but prosecutor Unal Lal firmly opposed bail based on the severity of the charges and the potential risk of interfering with State witnesses.

Mr Ratakele emphasised the gravity of the offense, considering the imprisonment term and tariffs for such crimes, as well as their roles as police officers.

The case has been adjourned to September 29.
