The Nasinu women’s rugby team survived a late surge by Namosi to retain the Pio Bosco Trophy in Suva on Saturday.
Despite a late second-half onslaught by Namosi, Nasinu had just enough to held on to the 43-35 win.
The side had stripped the trophy away from Suva in round four.
Nasinu head coach Tomasi Katonivualiku acknowledged the players, most of whom are under the age of 20, for sticking to their game plan and executing it right.
“Realistically the target of winning the Bosco was not in my plan for this year. Last year marked our first time at the Marama level and we were able to finish in the top four.
“Our target this year was to secure a place in the top eight and finish the season in the top two,” he said.
With an unbeaten record so far in the competition and their win over Suva in round four, the team has been motivated to play and improve.
“We have set goals and targets. One of the goals is to gain maximum points, score than four tries. In our last fifth game, we have scored more than four tries and that’s one the target.
“One of the important that imparted into the girls is to trust themselves.”
Nasinu will face Naitasiri next.
