Two dead, five hospitalised in Tailevu road accident

Two people are dead and five others admitted to hospital following a serious road accident at Nadaro, Tailevu, along Kings Road last night.

In a statement, the Fiji Police Force confirmed the incident occurred around 7.50pm when a 27-year-old farmer from Nadi, who was driving towards Korovou with a 24-year-old woman and a 17-year-old male passenger, allegedly lost control of his vehicle.

Police said the vehicle veered onto the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle driven by a 48-year-old man, who had three female passengers.

The 27-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 48-year-old driver was declared dead on arrival at the Nausori Health Centre.

The two passengers from the first vehicle are currently admitted at the Nausori Health Centre in stable condition.

The three female passengers from the second vehicle sustained serious injuries and are being treated at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.

Police say investigations into the fatal crash are underway.
