The Lautoka rugby team coach, Peniona Ranitu, believes that the key to securing a win in their upcoming match against Naitasiri is to focus on gaining possession.
The team is set to face Naitasiri in a round five double header contest in the Inkk Farebrother/Skipper Cup competition today, with Naitasiri having successfully defended the trophy in two previous challenges.
Ranitu emphasised the need for the team to maintain possession and control the game against Naitasiri.
In their last game against Vatukoula in round four, the team got off to a good start, and Ranitu is urging his players to replicate that performance against Naitasiri.
He believes that the team that can secure more possession will ultimately come out on top in the match.
“The focus this week was to get our mind prepared, because the boys are physically prepared, just to let them focus and try and win possessions against Naitasiri.
“I believe the team that is going to get more possession will win the game,” said Ranitu.
“We are hoping to play a good game, in front of Naitasiri’s home crowd, playing in their turf will not be easy but it’s going to be a battle.
Preparing mentally has been a focus for the team this week, as Ranitu acknowledges that the players are physically ready.
“We knew how important it is to win a Farebrother Trophy, we won it once last year and we managed to hold it for one game, and Naitasiri came and took it from us, so we are coming again to challenge, and we are hoping for a good game.”
Lautoka will face Naitasiri, 3pm at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today.
