Two police officers from the Counter Narcotics Bureau were arrested today and found to be in possession of illicit drugs believed to be liquid methamphetamine.

They were arrested in a rental vehicle soon after picking up the illicit substance from a courier company.

While not revealing details, Fiji Police Force said the arrests were the result of a joint operation between the Fiji Police Force, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), and the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu said the suspects are currently in police custody while the alleged illicit substances have been sent to the Fiji Police Forensic and Science Services for testing.

Commissioner Tudravu stated that the two officers will be subjected to the same legal processes as any other individual.

“There is no room in the Fiji Police Force for officers who abuse their authority. These arrests reinforce our collective commitment to the war on drugs and send a clear message — the law applies to everyone,” he said.

He further emphasised that while the actions of a few tarnish the force’s image, the majority of officers remain dedicated to upholding the law and restoring public confidence in the police.

“We are working hard to rebuild trust. Officers who work against their oath to protect and serve will be removed from the organisation,” Commissioner Tudravu added.

More information is expected to be released as investigations continue.
