THE Civil Aviation Authority (CAAF) has classified the recent Fiji Link twin otter incident at Nadi International Airport as a runway excursion, with investigations currently underway.
CAAF CEO Theresa Levestam said in a response to queries that initial indications were that the aircraft veered off the runway during landing.
She said all Fiji Link aircraft at the Nadi runway remain certified to international safety standards, with any further safety recommendations to be issued once the investigation is complete.
“A full causal analysis is underway, and it would be premature to comment on the cause at this stage. We note that no injuries were sustained, and aircraft damage was minimal,” she said.
Ms Levestam said a formal investigation has been launched by CAAF’s Air Safety Department.
“This process involves data collection, crew interviews, and technical inspections. Subject to timely access to all required information and cooperation from involved parties, we anticipate completion within 30 working days.”
When asked about potential safety recommendations, Ms Levestam said any safety recommendations would be based on the investigation’s findings.
“Should such recommendations be required, they will be formally issued and monitored by CAAF for implementation and compliance.”
