Air Terminal Services has announced plans to establish a training centre, with construction scheduled to begin in the first quarter of next year.

ATS CEO Alan Suchin said the centre would be established within the premises of a proposed new catering facility,

He said the centre would not be limited to ATS employees as the company plans to partner with local institutions to provide training for their staff.

Mr Suchin said the goal is to market the facility globally to provide a one-stop shop for students from Pacific Island countries, eliminating the need for them to travel offshore for training.

He noted that ATS has experienced a loss of skilled staff post-COVID.

“So, in order for us to sustain operations, we have to partner with the schools that do vocational training in catering,” Mr Suchin said, adding this approach would contribute to the development of skilled workers for the broader market.

“With this new facility that’s come on board, while we will be training people, skilled people for the market, it will also backfill our needs in-house as well.

“The facility will feature manufacturing, meal production, training centre and administration offices.”
