For the past four years, DHL has proudly hosted the FJ Fashion Week Crowning Night, an event that not only dazzles with vibrant fashion but also champions sustainability and responsible style.
Addressing the media at the Metro Event Space in Suva last Friday, the company’s country manager, Sarvesh Devan, said the initiative was launched following the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2022.
“Once we came out of COVID, an idea came about revolving around sustainability,” Mr Devan said.
“Every single attire worn by either king or queen was made from recycled materials; the idea was all about how to protect our environment and what we can do as individuals, as employees, or as a business to protect the environment.”
A total of four kings and nine queens, all DHL employees, exhibited their collections which reflected sustainable practices, emphasising the growing movement towards eco- conscious fashion
Mr Devan aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050; hence, every individual in the business must contribute towards reaching that target.
“This is all those little steps that we do in the business to be able to reach that goal.”
All funds raised from the event, he said, would be donated to WOWS Kids Fiji, a charity focused on supporting children with cancer, and their families.
“The contestants fundraise, the company tops it up, and we donate it to charity. We don’t know what the amount is, but every single year, the amount increases.”
Mr Devan remarked that DHL Fiji has been recognised as a great workplace for five consecutive years, according to a survey conducted by an independent organisation in the UK as of May 2025.
“The smiles on the employees’ faces bring everyone together. I believe every employer should treat their employees with respect, and they will be able to achieve the results that they want to see.
“We hope other businesses can take this on board and look after their employees as well.”
