Heavy rain alert remains for Northern and Eastern Fiji

The Fiji Meteorological Service has maintained a heavy rain alert for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, as a trough of low pressure continues to affect the northern and eastern parts of the country.

The alert, which has been in place since the weekend, remains in force for these areas as occasional rain and isolated heavy falls are expected to continue throughout the day.

However, the heavy rain alert for the rest of the Fiji group has been cancelled, with improving weather conditions forecast for the western and central divisions.

The Met Office warns that localised heavy rain could still lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution as poor visibility on roads is also expected during periods of heavy rain.
