FMF Suva rugby team continues to maintain their dominance in the Skipper Cup competition, remaining unbeaten after a convincing 32-15 victory over Macuata in round 4 at Suva Grammar School grounds yesterday.
The team’s impressive winning streak began in the first round with a 35-13 triumph over Ba, followed by Lautoka (38-25) and Malolo (27-18) in the third round.
Suva showcased a strong start in the match against Macuata, taking a commanding 27-10 lead in the first half.
Their solid defensive strategies and attacking skills paved the way for a final scoreline of 32-15 in their favor.
Team manager Ulaiasi Butukoro commended the players for their disciplined performance, emphasising their adherence to the team’s systems.
“The boys started well in the first half, we stuck to our systems, and we scored couple of tries in the first quarter, we were a bit slow in the second half, but the boys did their best and we got the win,” said Butukoro.
He adds with a player pool of approximately 60 individuals; Suva has been strategically rotating players to build depth and foster healthy competition within the team.
“Our player base is around 60 players that we have, we have been rotating our players until this fourth round, and we are trying to build a depth in the team.
“Today (yesterday) we had seven new debutants, and we gave them a shot to wear the Suva jersey, and we are thankful that they came through and they managed to score points earlier in the game.
“If think what we have saw is that once we maintain momentum and stick to our system, we need to be consistent in that, so that is what something we need to work on next week before we take on Tailevu.”
Acknowledging the spirited effort of the Macuata team, Butukoro extended his best wishes to them for their future matches.
He expressed gratitude to the team’s management, families, and supporters for their unwavering backing and recognised the players for their unwavering commitment and effort on the field.
