HARD work and sacrifice finally paid off for some University of the South Pacific students who graduated yesterday.
Tears of joy and celebration filled Suva’s Vodafone Arena as the graduates walked up the aisle to collect their certificates.
Akanisi Rokoruve, who hails from Namuka in Nakelo, Tailevu, was among hundreds of graduates.
A child of a single mother, she said, being the first in the family to graduate had been her biggest life achievement.
Mum Unaisi Likurua said the struggle of being away from her daughter as a result of work pressure did not stop her from working hard for her daughter’s future.
“I faced hardships when I was working in Savusavu, but I believe I must not fail for the sake of my daughter,” she said.
Ms Rokoruve encouraged youths to believe in themselves and aim high to achieve their goals.
