TUBERCULOSIS testing has begun for Nasigatoka beef and dairy farmers for the new financial year.
Brucellosis Tuberculosis Eradication Campaign team co-ordinator and agriculture assistant Sainimili Visavisawaqa said they planned to cover more farms this year to help farmers lift their production rate.
“The role we play is important. And with four females and four males in our team, we are striving towards keeping our farms free from TB,” she said.
“We hope the farmers will assist in our overall efforts.”
The team is conducting tests along the Sigatoka coastline as well as inland.
“These tests are mandatory to be carried out as farmers will have to wait for three clear tests before they can introduce new breeds into their farm.”
Ms Visavisawaqa said they would carry out 100 per cent herd testing before moving onto the next farm.
“In these two weeks, the team will be covering around 20 farms and starting around 6am until late in the evening.
“The officers will move next week to Navosa Highland farms.”
