Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Lenora Qereqeretabua said she was shocked and saddened by the passing of the general practitioner, Dr Isireli Biumaitotoya.
Ms Qereqeretabua describing him as a person who challenged biases and hearts.
“September happens to be Heart Health Month, a reminder for me that caring for our hearts is not only about diet and exercise but also about kindness, acceptance, and the way we hold one another in love, whoever you love,” said Ms Qereqeretabua.
“May your heart beat in safety, peace and compassion. I send my love and deepest condolence to Dr Leli’s nearest and dearest.”
The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has also paid tribute to, saying he was a valuable member of Nadi’s business community.
The chamber’s interim president, Lawrence Kumar, said they were deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Dr Isireli, who was beloved and well known by many in the Jet Set Town and beyond.
“He was always willing to help the chamber and the business community whenever we called on him for assistance,” said Mr Kumar.
“When we got the news, we were in shock because it never crossed our minds that someone would want to do this to someone like Dr Leli.
“On behalf of the chamber, I send our condolences to Dr Leli’s family and friends who are feeling the most sorrow with this loss.”
Mr Naidu said this kind of tragedy should not be happening, “especially in our community, where we promote diversity and integration of our different values, cultures and traditions”.
