Six domestic rape cases filed in High Court in August

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has released its latest data, confirming six serious domestic-related rape cases filed in the High Courts of Fiji last month, involving victims and accused persons who were related.

Among the cases were a 43-year-old man has been charged with one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving his 17-year-old daughter.

In a rare case of marital rape, a 60-year-old man was charged with raping his 60-year-old wife.

The ODPP said a 37-year-old man faces multiple charges, including rape, assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal intimidation, breach of a Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO), and breach of bail conditions for allegedly raping, assaulting, and threatening to stab his 33-year-old de facto partner with a kitchen knife.

A 24-year-old man was charged with rape and assault of his 24-year-old de facto partner.

In another case, a 35-year-old man was initially charged with the rape of his 32-year-old de facto partner, but the matter was discontinued after the complainant admitted to filing a false report.

A 23-year-old man was charged with raping his 17-year-old cousin.

The ODPP stated that offences such as assault, criminal intimidation, breach of DVRO, and breach of bail conditions are recorded separately from the rape charges.
