THE Methodist Church does not condone the desecration of temples and is pleading with those who have engaged in such practices to stop.
Church general secretary the Reverend Dr Jolami Lasawa said the church had always emphasised to its congregation the importance of respecting other religions and faith-based organisations.
“We discussed it in the conference and we’ve raised it again with our ministers that the church does not condone the act of sacrilege that has been happening around the country,” Dr Lasawa said.
“It’s sad that other religious temples and properties are being destroyed and broken into.
“We do not support such acts and we hope this stops.”
Dr Lasawa said the church firmly believed in ecumenism and working with other religious groups.
“We face many challenges in Fiji already and it is important that we engage ourselves and work with stakeholders in overcoming these social ills.
“Our church president has encouraged us to lift our standard of serving people and the ministry so we can do better in our work. This is why the church has published a book that contains the teachings and doctrines of the church, so our members will not be swayed by other teachings.”
Dr Lasawa said the book was launched this week and would be distributed to its members.
“It’s important because there are so many issues faced by our members and they need to know their faith in Christ.”
