Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson says the Super Rugby Pacific competition needs to have a Fijian referee in it.

He made the call when asked by an attendee at the Fiji Rugby Union 2025 Symposium if he worked with local referees to help in the long run.

“Well, I’m not sure if everyone knows, I was a referee and again, it’s extremely passionate that the referees in Fiji become, I’m not going to say better but they need a referee in Super Rugby,” Jackson responded.

“So for me, yes, I’ve always opened the doors. Again, where we’re very lucky to have two referees two years ago.”

With the call being made, he compared it to how the same was made here at home.

“But one thing is we open our doors and not everyone walks through,” Jackson highlighted.

“This is really important when an invitation is open to come in, we’re doing it for the right reason.”

He sounded the call for referees to be a part of the process since it would enable the flow of desirable conditions for play.

“We want referees there, we want them to make them better because we need them in Super Rugby,” he urged.

“And you get better referees, you get better grounds and get better balls, you get a better game.

“And it all ties them together, and we’re all here, not to hide. We’re here to work together to make sure that we’ve got the right people loving this game forever.”

Meanwhile, the FRU Symposium continues today at Albert Park in Suva.
