Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma leaders have not received complaints over social media claims that the church has become monetised and that it’s strayed from its mission of saving souls.

Church general secretary Reverend Dr Jolami Lasawa said if attendance at this week’s conference in Suva is anything to go by, then support towards the church remains solid.

“We have not heard or been made aware of any complaints as such,” he said.

“So far this week, we have had to order more chairs for our members, and this means the people support the work of the church.

“I don’t know who’s complaining but we remain focussed on our mission which is to take the church to another level.”

Dr Lasawa said the meetings this week had included ministerial issues that had reminded church ministers about their roles.

Earlier in the week, church president Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou said it was time for lay preachers to live a life of discipline in serving Christ.

Dr Turagavou said it was prudent to focus on the possibilities of moving Christ Church to another level.

“In addition, it’s our time, as we re-evaluate and revive our intent, the intent of the importance of mission in ambition house programs of the church,” he said.

“The MCIF (Methodist Church) is a missional church and we need to revisit and engage with our leadership, the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

“The church is directed to move out from its comfort zone in order to fulfil its vision on the ground. Our theme for the two consecutive years is moving Christ Church to another level,” he said.
