THE prevalence of social ills plaguing society has prompted the Assemblies of God Church to dedicate a specific session to the topic during the church’s general conference tomorrow.
AOG Fiji general secretary the Reverend Filikesa Koroivueta said the decision was part of the church’s holistic approach towards addressing such issues.
“It’s not only working out our faith inside the church, but outside the church as well, especially partnering with existing institutions and organisations in combating social ills of the society we’re facing,” Mr Koroivueta said.
“All these drug cases, HIV cases. How can we, the Assemblies of God, involve ourselves and partner with those people who are already engaged?
“We want to be actively involved.”
Before the general conference, Mr Koroivueta said pocket meetings were held at district level.
“Government departments came over to talk and discuss how we could strongly partner and engage with this program.
“We will be coming up with strategies where we can help the societies we are living in today, like drug cases, HIV cases.”
Mr Koroivueta said young people had lost the meaning of life which made them wander around.
The 42nd Biennial General Conference, from August 25-29, is being held at the Mount Zion Cathedral at Saru in Lautoka with the theme ‘Faith in Action’.
