Former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama testified today that his older brother Jonacani reached out to him regarding his mugshot being taken and posted on the police Viber group.
Mr Bainimarama said that his brother felt embarrassed because his relatives and friends might assume he was a drug suspect, while in reality, he was a police informant.
He also testified that he did not send any Viber message to Tudravu or demanding that he resign.
He was also cross-examined by Assistant DPP Laisani Tabuakuro.
He will resume his testimony after the break.
In this case, Mr Bainimarama is charged with making unwarranted demands between May 21 and August 18, 2021.
He is accused of directing then Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu to terminate the services of Sergeant Penieli Ratei and Constable Tomasi Naulu.
The charge alleges Mr Tudravu was told he would have to resign if he failed to dismiss the two officers.
Qiliho faces two counts of abuse of office for allegedly reviewing the disciplinary decision made by Mr Tudravu.
