The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) is banking on the 2025 Extra Beach Soccer League to drive the growth of the sport in the country.

The teams confirmed for the competition are Northland Tailevu BSC, Tailevu Naitasiri BSC, Rewa BSC, Nasinu BSC, Suva BSC, Lami BSC and Navua BSC, which will be played at the Fiji Sports Council Beach Soccer Pitch in Laucala.

In a statement released on Facebook, Fiji FA competitions manager Shaniya Shankar said the league was about more than just crowning a champion.

“The Extra Beach Soccer League provides an exciting platform for our districts to showcase their talent and passion for the game,” Shankar said.

“We are committed to supporting our teams through proper structures and regulations, while also ensuring fair play and transparency. This league is not only about competition but also about growing the sport and inspiring the next generation of beach soccer players in Fiji.”

The tournament will run in a single round-robin format, with the team that finishes top of the table to take the title.

But Shankar stressed that the real win would be in laying the foundations for long-term development.

Fiji FA has set strict rules to keep the competition organised.

Each district can register up to 30 licensed players, with eligibility tied to the Comet registration system.

“Only players officially registered under their districts in the Comet system will qualify for these allowances,” Shankar explained.

Player transfers will also be monitored, with moves only permitted during the official Fiji FA transfer window.

Shankar reminded districts that team officials must also be formally registered.

“Coaches and managers must be formally registered through the Official Entry Form, with submissions due no later than Monday, September 1, 2025,” she said.

With the structures in place, Fiji FA hopes the Extra Beach Soccer League will spark more interest in the sport and create opportunities for young players looking to pursue beach soccer seriously.
