The Methodist Church has a role to play in addressing Fiji’s socio-economic issues.

Speaking at the 190th Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma Conference church service in Suva yesterday, church president the Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou called on their members and leaders to address the social economic issues facing Fiji today.

“The church has an important role to play within our church organisations and beyond and the church has prophetic witness within our society in Fiji and beyond,” he said.

“So, what is the real issue that the Methodist Church is confronting, and it is going against at this point in time?

“What are the social political issues and socio-economic issues that is confronting the Methodist Church at the moment.

“We need to address the emerging issues and the current issues on the ground.”

He said the church also needed a readjustment.

“Within the Methodist Church organisation, we need a readjustment. We need recourse and we need repentance.

“If we need our church to grow, we need adjustments within the church organisation and the church governance.

“We need the intervention of the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Dr Turagavou added the church needed gifted people to take on the important responsibility of spreading the Word of God and bringing in more people.

“There are gifted people within this community that can handle this important responsibility.

“The apostles were urged to find seven other gifted people with wisdom and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

“We have to search for these people to take up these responsibilities because we are increasing in numbers.”
