State lawyer Rigieta Pai has sought a tentative trial date in October to be set by the High Court in Lautoka in the case of murder accused Alivereti Lesukiyasawa.
Mr Lesukiyasawa faces a charge of murder in connection with the death of Joseph Johnson three years ago.
He is believed to have been heavily intoxicated when he allegedly killed Johnson on Lautoka’s Evan St, where the body was also found on February 19, 2022.
The case was heard before High Court judge Justice Sunil Sharma who said a trial date had already been set for the matter although he could bring the date forward for both counsels.
Ms Pai also sought another date for the pre-trial conference hearing as the counsel in charge of the matter was engaged in the Nadi Magistrate’s Court.
The court was told the pre-trial conference hearing documents were ready, pending the signatures of both counsels.
Mr Lesukiyasawa’s counsel did not object to the deferment of the pre-trial conference hearing date.
Justice Sharma adjourned the matter to September 24 for mention and extended bail for Mr Lesukiyasawa.
