Ten ruthless tries is how Ratu Kadavulevu School set the records straight after seven years to win the under-18 Vodafone Deans trophy 53-15 against a Nasinu Secondary School team that held on till the final whistle.
The first half was an intense contest of agility and precision, as RKS sought to pile points on the scoreboard however Nasinu drew first blood with an unconverted try.
RKS answered with an unconverted try of their own, and afterwards, were infused with a renewed lease of life that propelled them to put on a captivating performance against Nasinu.
The men from Delanakaikai added to their side of the scoreboard with a try from left wing Jone Kunaqio, however the conversion failed to cross through the bars and hit the left goalpost instead.
Tackles of resounding force and set-pieces were executed by RKS, with Nasinu putting on an equal sense of pursuit, however Pio Romanu sailed through the rough Nasinu defence to add RKS’ third try.
Before the break, Romanu crossed the try-line again, having to fend off dynamic Nasinu hunters closing in on him.
Meanwhile, three points were added to the Nasinu score tally thanks to a successful penalty kick by skipper and fly-half Iowane Nabe.
The half-time scores stood at 22-8 for RKS.
After the breather, Tevita Rokosuka of RKS scored the school’s fifth try of the evening, having to push through a defiant Nasinu defence that continued to hold on.
Suliano Savenaca of RKS added another try, followed by fly-half Lemeki Ravukivuki.
The conversion for RKS’ eighth try, made by Asaeli Bulai, was not successful.
RKS’ ninth try from backline player Ratu Apimeleki Vikila who ran toward the try-line and another try of his after full-time solidified RKS’ victory.
