New winners in Raluve competition

New champions emerged in the under-16 and 18 grades of the Weet-Bix Raluve competition when the dust settled at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Defending champion of the under-16 grade, Sigatoka Methodist College was defeated by minnows Ratu Latianara College 12-10.

The Korovisilou, Serua are the new winners of the grade and fought through a defiant Sigatoka Methodist side to make way for Nanise Donumaitoga to score the winning try in the dying minutes of the game.

Sigatoka Methodist College, which had eased off any attempts for Ratu Latianara College to break through, were left to contemplate the sudden change in fate for them.

For Ratu Latianara College, their achievement at the Raluve competition was credited by head coach Ratu Vidika Kuriyalavou as the fulfillment of the strong backing of the vanua, sponsors Nanuku Resort and Post Fiji and parents and guardians.

In the under-18 grade, the Raluve trophy has now travelled across Vomo St in Lautoka from Natabua High School to Jasper Williams High School, effectively retaining in the Sugar City.

Jasper held off a determined Natabua attack throughout the match, even drawing five-all at one point.

Natabua exhausted all avenues through which they could make a try, however the Jasperian defence was heavily fortified with dynamic defence strategies that proved timely for them in the end.

Jasper head coach Alena Laqai thanked the Lord for His provision and guidance in helping them win over Natabua yesterday.

Meanwhile, they walked away with $5000 in prize money while U16 winners Ratu Latianara College walked away with $3000.
