Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has called on the Fiji Higher Education Commission to explain its decision to withhold funding for Pacific Polytech.

Mr Radrodro said while the ministry fully respected the commission’s regulatory process, government funding required transparency and accountability.

“Our priority is always the welfare of our students,” said Mr Radrodro in a statement.

“Service providers who receive public funds must meet the basic standards set by the FHEC to safeguard resources and ensure quality education.”

He said the matter was urgent given the thousands of students currently enrolled with more expected to join during the upcoming September intake.

Mr Radrodro confirmed the ministry would continue working closely with the FHEC to ensure compliance and that Fiji’s students received the best education to prepare them for the labour market.
