THE payment of rural allowances for teachers should be done in a timely manner and distributed fairly, says Fiji Head Teachers Association president Johnson Rura.

Mr Rura specified that rural allowance for a married couple should be reinstated.

“These educators serve in some of our most challenging environments with limited access to resources—they are not asking for privilege, only fairness.,” he said.

“Let us not allow delays or outdated policies to demoralize those who serve with sacrifice.

“Timely payment of FEG to school- if schools can be paid their FEG on time so that it does not hinder the administration of our school operations.”

Mr Rura was speaking at the opening of the 42nd FHTA Conference in Denarau yesterday.

The event brought together more than 700 primary school teachers from 11 districts.
