A call for the support of the public, old scholars and students has been made by Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union vice-president Biu Colati ahead of the finals of the Vodafone Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve competitions this Saturday.

Colati called on them to come out in numbers and support the young players, noting how they could don the white jumpers of the male and female national teams in the future.

“Let’s come out in numbers and support these kids, these are the kids that are going to be fighting for the white jersey at the end of all these competitions,” he emphasised.

“These are the same kids that we’re going to be cheering for when they’ve done this.”

While the call of support had been made, he also highlighted how the FSSRU and Fiji Rugby were working together to ensure the finals would proceed in an orderly manner.

“I think we (FSSRU and FRU) are just wanting to put Saturday’s event together at the best that we could come up with so that the best team could win this year,” he said.

“I would really love to see the public out there, supporters of Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby to come out in numbers and cheer for whatever team that you are cheering for.”

According to the Fiji Sports Council, a total of 10,990 fans turned up at the HFC Bank Stadium to watch the under-18 match between Ratu Kadavulevu School and Suva Grammar School.

With the finals of the under-14 to 19 grades all happening inside the stadium, crowd numbers are expected to increase, especially for the under-18 final between Nasinu Secondary School and Ratu Kadavulevu School.

“I’m pleading with the public, old scholars, parents and stakeholders out there; come out in numbers and come and support these kids,” Colati said.
