PONSONBY Football Legends celebrated a memorable victory at Churchill Park yesterday after defeating United Legends 4-1 on penalties to claim the Legends final title at the 2025 FANCA International Club Championships.
The New Zealand-based side showed resilience and unity throughout the match, which ended 0-0 after 40 minutes of play under the scorching Lautoka sun. Both teams displayed structured football and refused to give an inch, forcing the decider into a penalty shootout.
Ponsonby’s goalkeeper proved the hero of the day, pulling off three brilliant saves to deny United and secure the title.
Captain Yunus Musa praised the efforts of his side and acknowledged the organisers for ensuring the tournament went ahead smoothly despite venue changes.
“It’s such an honour to come and play here.
“The organisers have done so much, shifting matches from Prince Charles Park to Churchill Park, which is such a lovely ground.
“To the boys, my message is simple keep calm and play the game. Everyone is an experienced player, and that makes the difference,” Musa said.
