The stage is set for what is expected to be a heated and action-packed finale of the Vodafone Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve competitions, following the semi-finals at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.
Every semi-final from the under-14 to 19 grade showed the hunger present within each team and how their pursuit of the coveted Deans silverware grew increasingly apparent with every final result delivered from the venues where matches took place.
In the under-18 grade, Nasinu Secondary School will meet Ratu Kadavulevu School after the two teams effectively thrashed their opponents, Natabua High School and Suva Grammar School, respectively.
Nasinu won 44-3 over Natabua and RKS beat Grammar 48-28, with Grammar’s attempt to bounce back in the second half being short-lived.
In the U19 grade, Nasinu will meet Tailevu North College, a meeting of two schools whose progress in the zone competition and national quarter-finals has been marked by wins of varying degree.
Nasinu beat QVS 12-5 and Tailevu North beat Ratu Navula College 33-13 in their semi-finals yesterday.
In the U17 grade, RKS will meet Lelean Memorial School in the final after the former beat Ba Provincial Freebird Institute 22-8 and the latter winning 27-25.
In the U16 grade, Gospel High School will meet Grammar defeating Gospel defeated Marist Brothers High School 14-12 and Grammar beating RKS 30-5.
In the U15 grade, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School will meet Grammar in the final after MGM beat QVS 15-14 and Grammar beating RKS 19-15 yesterday.
For the U14 grade, Grammar meets QVS in the final this week after the Veiuto-based school won 10-8 over Marist and QVS beating Lelean 17-13.
For the Weet-Bix Raluve competition, the power of young female players was in full force and led to surprise upsets and the definition of title defence.
In the Raluve U16 grade, Sigatoka Methodist High School will meet Ratu Latianara College in the final. Sigatoka Methodist beat Dreketi Central College 29-0 while Ratu Latianara won 12-10 over Adi Cakobau School.
The Raluve U18 final this week will see the two Lautoka-based neighbouring schools, Natabua High School and Jasper Williams High School face-off in a battle for Sugar City brilliance in the Capital City.
Natabua booked their ticket to the final with a 15-12 win over MGM and Jasper with a win 34-22 over Muaniweni College.
All finals will take place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva this Saturday.
