Naitasiri winger Sakaraia Soqonakalou emerged as the hero for his team, scoring the winning try in their 18-11 victory over Nadroga to retain the Farebrother trophy and won round three of the Skipper Cup competition.
The win means Naitasiri has successfully defended the trophy after two challenges.
The intense match, held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday, saw the teams tied 11-11 in the final minutes before Soqonakalou’s decisive play.
Coach Timoci Tinaviti praised the team’s hard work and emphasised sticking to the game plan and teamwork.
The enthusiastic support from Naitasiri and Nadroga fans added to the atmosphere, motivating the players to secure the win.
“We knew Nadroga won’t be an easy opponent, they are the defending champions of the Skipper, so this win was big for the team, also getting back from our lost last week against Tailevu in round two,” said Tinaviti.
He emphasised the importance of sticking to the game plan, working together as a team, and looking ahead to upcoming match.
“My message to the boys was to stick to our game plan, let the ball flow and work as a team, we are looking forward for our next opponent, now we going to regroup and come on Monday we will be back in work mode.”
While acknowledging areas for improvement, such as scrum and ball work, Tinaviti commended the team for their performance in difficult weather conditions and expressed gratitude to the fans and supporters for their enthusiastic presence at the match.
He also thanked the sponsors for their support and expressed excitement for round four.
