New players showcased their skills on the field for the Lami team during round six of the Digicel Fiji Women’s Senior League, where they held a 1-all draw against Northland Tailevu.

The game was held at the Pacific Theological College in Suva yesterday.

In the first half, both teams displayed strong defence, but just before the break, Lami managed to score a goal, leading 1-0 at halftime.

The second half was a full-on battle, with Tailevu eventually equalising to secure the 1-1 draw at the final whistle.

Lami coach Anish Ali expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance this season, acknowledging the increased level of competition and the players’ dedication on the field.

“This season for our team was great, the games were organised well by Fiji Football, our level of competition went up this year, the girls really gave their best every time they stepped on the field,” said Ali.

“Most of our players are from Ahmadiyya College, they are really young girls, I think this is the first time for them to play soccer, so working with the team throughout the year is great, they really worked hard on the basic and I can say they have a great future ahead.”

Although aiming for a win, Ali acknowledged that a draw was still a positive result, especially considering the team’s victories against top teams like Navua and Suva.

“Some of the girls are missing from this match, but we can see the new players are doing well on the field, even though we were aiming for the win; a draw is good enough for the team.”

He identified areas for improvement, such as defence and finishing, but overall, he was confident in the team’s readiness for future matches.

Ali extended his gratitude to the team’s president, parents, and players for their commitment and effort.
