The Fiji Meteorological Service states a heavy rain alert remains for the entire Fiji Group as unstable weather conditions continue to affect the country.

According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, an active trough of low pressure remains just west of Fiji, bringing with it widespread rain, thunderstorms.

As of 5:37pm today, a heavy rain alert was in force for the whole of the Fiji Group and a strong wind warning was in force for land areas of the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, the northern, western, and southern coastal areas of Viti Levu (from Rakiraki to Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Navua and up to Suva), Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti Groups.

The forecast is for occasional rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms and rain is expected to ease over most areas later tonight.

Localised heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
