The Macuata Provincial Youth Council is seeking greater support from traditional leaders, saying a lack of resources is making it difficult to serve young people across the province.

Council president Jitoko Vulava said they continued to face challenges as a result of internal divisions between villages and a lack of basic support from traditional leaders.

“These differences make it difficult to carry out our duties,” he said.

He said council members were not paid and often used their own money to fund their activities.

“We also do not have an office space to operate from, nor do we have access to transport and this makes it hard to reach remote communities and engage with youths there.”

He said the support from traditional leaders would make their work easier and more effective.

“We need their support. It will be easier for us to carry out our work if the traditional leaders are behind us.” Mr Vulava urged the leaders to work with council executives in improving the lives of young people in the province.
