Excitement builds as the highly anticipated 2025 Fiji Secondary Schools Hockey tournament is set to take place in Nasau Park, Levuka, Ovalau next week.

The tournament will bring together 13 participating schools for four days of intense and exciting hockey action.

“After many years we have been able to get back Delana Methodist High School, Ballantine Memorial to join us again as well as two new schools – Sila Secondary School and Dilkusha Methodist High School – entering this year,” president of schools’ hockey Immanuel Prasad stated.

The primary objective of the hockey tournament is to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical fitness among players while fostering community spirit and providing entertainment for fans.

“It also offers players the opportunity to enhance their skills, compete at various levels, and be scouted for national development teams and international competitions by selectors from the Fiji Hockey Federation, ultimately encouraging the growth and popularity of the sport.”

Prasad also expressed his gratitude for the support received, emphasising the sponsor’s dedication to nurturing youth sports development in Fiji.

FSSHA formed a significant partnership with Venu Haulage Shipping Ltd Fiji, and Outback Range Pte Ltd as the naming rights sponsors for the event.

“Their support reflects a shared commitment to empowering young athletes and promoting hockey across our islands,” said Prasad.

Schools will battle for top prizes in the under-16 boys’ Noal Cup, under-16 girls’ Melaia Sandys Cup, under-19 girls’ Westmere Cup, and the under-19 boys’ Bhasin Cup.

In addition, the prestigious Inter-District tournament will feature the John May Cup and Sophia Raddock Cup.

Competition is scheduled to start on Thursday, August 19 and conclude on Saturday, August 23.

The 2024 competition was held in Suva at the National Hockey Centre.
