The State has filed an application to secure the evidence of outgoing Fiji Airways managing director and CEO, Andre Viljoen before he leaves Fiji.
This is in relation to a case involving former attorney-general Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, former Fiji Airways executive Shaenaz Voss, Fiji Airways general manager Safety, Security and Quality Sharun Ali, and Fiji Airlines T/A Fiji Link.
Last week, the Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Laisani Tabuakoro, informed the Nadi Magistrate’s Court that Mr Viljoen leaves for Mauritius at the end of September and the State was unsure whether he would return to Fiji to testify.
All accused face a total of 66 counts of various charges linked to the unlawful carriage of a firearm on an aircraft, and were charged under the Civil Aviation (Security) Act 1994, Civil Aviation (Security) Regulations 1994, and Crimes Act 2009.
Responding to the application, defence lawyer Devanesh Sharma, representing Ms Voss and Mr Sayed-Khaiyum, consented to it while lawyers for Mr Ali and Fiji Link did not.
If the application is granted by the court, the recording of evidence will be done from September 2-4.
The hearing of the application will be on August 22.
