FIJI Water has announced a proposed restructure that could see 51 positions made redundant across its Fiji operations.

This was announced in a letter to staff dated August 13, 2025, by senior vice president of operations, Damir Hlebec.

“The need for the proposed restructure is due to the ongoing global economic uncertainty impacting businesses in every industry and sector,” he said.

“FIJI Water has similarly faced challenges, including softening sales in key markets and flat growth over the past several years.”

“These realities have required us to make the difficult decision to consider a workforce reduction in Fiji to create greater efficiencies in our business.”

The proposal affects both the Naikabula Depot and the Yaqara Plant, with the potential loss of 19 salaried and 32 hourly positions.

Over the next 60 days, the company will consult with employees before making any final decision. If the restructure proceeds, affected employees will receive severance pay equivalent to three months’ base salary, plus two weeks of pay for each year of service.

Selection for redundancy will be based on skills, experience, flexibility, team fit, and attendance records.

“We understand this is a challenging period for everyone involved and senior management is committed to keeping you fully informed throughout this process,” said Mr Hlebec.

In a separate statement to The Fiji Times, FIJI Water said it has met with the general secretary of the National Union of Workers over the issue.

“We and the union are fully committed to working together constructively to ensure impacted employees are provided with support throughout this transition,” the company said.

“Our intention is to maintain FIJI Water as a strong and resilient business, and we remain fully invested in our ongoing projects and in the communities where we operate.”
