Youths have the power to turn challenges into opportunities and to shape a brighter future, says Abdul Zorhab, founder of the One Nation Our People (ONOP) Youth Foundation.

He said the foundation marked International Youth Day this week with a message of youth empowerment and community service. The foundation was officially established by Mr Zorhab in 2021.

While reflecting on the theme ‘Youth driving change: from challenges to opportunities’, Mr Zorhab said there was a point in his life when he felt voiceless.

“Today, I am not only surviving, but leading, determined to ensure that no young person feels invisible, voiceless, or without hope,” he said.

“As the proud founder of One Nation Our People Youth Foundation, I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead such a remarkable group of young people.”

Mr Zorhab said the foundation had since grown from the initial 15 members to a registered body with 35 youth volunteers.

“We are not just about distributing groceries or aid, we believe in uplifting communities, amplifying voices, and empowering young people to lead with courage and compassion.

“Our members have given up luxuries, family time, and personal enjoyment to serve communities.

“They have stood in the sun and rain, carried heavy loads, worked late nights on paperwork, co-ordinated events, and held themselves accountable. These sacrifices are the heartbeat of our mission.”

Mr Zorhab said a significant milestone for the foundation was being recognised by the International Peace Youth Group.

“At One Nation Our People Youth Foundation, we see the power of our young people every day from Lautoka, Tavua, Nadi, Rakiraki, Sigatoka, Suva, Nausori, and Labasa.”
