The inaugural two-day Pacific Fiber and Training Conference is a milestone achievement that will assist the region in plotting its course on the global digital roadmap, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications Manoa Kamikamica.

While delivering his address at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa yesterday, Mr Kamikamica commended Telecom Fiji Ltd for its leadership and vision in bringing the conference to Fiji’s shores.

“By hosting the Pacific Fiber Conference here in Fiji, Telecom Fiji is sending a clear message: the Pacific is ready to lead and shape the next chapter of global connectivity,” he said.

“At the Pacific ICT Ministers’ Dialogue just last week, we successfully concluded the APT Policy and Regulation Forum for the Pacific and the 2nd ICT Ministers Dialogue, which brought together leaders and government representatives to discuss regional ICT priorities and cooperation.

“I also had the privilege to officially open the Pacific Cyber Week on Monday, which continues until Thursday, providing a vital platform for deep discussions and capacity building on cybersecurity, digital resilience, and related initiatives.”

Mr Kamikamica said the conference was a timely addition to the plethora of important conversations held since the start of August, further strengthening collective commitment to advancing digital infrastructure and inclusion throughout the Pacific region’s national digital strategy

“Fiji launched its first-ever National Digital Strategy 2025–2030 earlier this year, a comprehensive roadmap built on five strategic pillars, one digital infrastructure and cyber resilience, two digital inclusion and empowerment.”

Mr Kamikamica said innovation-led economic growth, smart governance and digital public services as well as sustainable development and global co-operation were also key components.

“This strategy is our commitment to building the infrastructure, systems, skills and safeguards required for a thriving digital economy.

“It guides how we plan, finance and deliver critical ICT projects, ensuring that every investment contributes to inclusive and sustainable development.”

Mr Kamikamica said the government’s vision was clear for a digitally empowered Fiji, fully integrated into the global economy, with connectivity that is fast, resilient, inclusive and secure.
