The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) says it is taking proactive measures to recover outstanding lease payments owed to landowners, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding indigenous landowner interests.

As of July 2025, a total of 43 arrears cases have been filed and attended in court, with a combined value of more than $125,000.

TLTB Chief Executive Officer Solomone Nata said that from these proceedings, eight court orders have been successfully issued, amounting to “a little over $20,000 in recoverable funds.”

He said the results demonstrate “the effectiveness of TLTB’s legal approach and its dedication to ensuring that landowners receive what is due to them.”

Mr Nata said the Board has intensified its actions against rent arrears and is engaging with tenants who have chosen structured part-payment plans to clear their debts and avoid legal proceedings.

He added that TLTB is also reviewing re-entry options for tenants who have vacated their leased land or have been evading TLTB officers.

The Board is urging all tenants with outstanding payments to settle their dues immediately to avoid legal consequences, including “disconnection of essential services and eviction.”

According to Mr Nata, these measures are part of a broader strategy to strengthen accountability and promote sustainable land management practices.
