Before they step onto an international stage in Tahiti, Fiji’s top bodybuilders must first conquer a far more familiar one, right here in the capital.
On Saturday August 16, the 2025 Suva Classics will transform the Metro Gym Convention Conference Room into a battleground of muscle, discipline and determination, serving as the official pre-qualifier for the South Pacific Championship in Tahiti this October.
Acting Fiji Bodybuilding president, Elizabeth Maki said the event would give athletes a platform to test themselves against
“We will be standing against our South Pacific Island brothers and sisters, and it will be a great exposure for most of our athletes,” Maki said.
The Suva Classics will feature four categories for men and three for women, ensuring a range of competition for both seasoned competitors and newcomers.
“We have developed many great new athletes and are very happy to see new faces with great potential,” she said.
Maki highlighted Fiji Bodybuilding’s affiliation with other international shows at the Oceania level, adding that future participation will depend on funding and athlete interest.
“One of our biggest challenges is securing strong sponsorships and support for our athletes,” Maki said.
Despite these hurdles, the federation is working to establish a structured system and programs to identify and nurture potential athletes.
With free admission for spectators, organisers are hoping for a full house to cheer on Fiji’s finest.
“This event is more than a competition,” Maki said.
“It’s a celebration of strength, discipline and the unbreakable will to be the best.”
