HOURS before the Vodafone Fijiana XV’s squad to the Women’s Rugby World Cup was named, the team engaged in a scrimmage session with the Manusina Samoa team at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.
It was an opportunity for both teams to gauge their levels of preparation and to add the finishing touches before the WRWC later this month.
Both teams faced off in a match where the home side won 34-12.
Fijiana XV head coach Ioan Cunningham said the Samoans put up a good fight and made it difficult for them at times.
“We have combinations, we change combinations. We had a go with some people at different positions, just thinking ahead to the Rugby World Cup,” Cunningham highlighted.
“But the exercise was really good for us.”
With the team to England being announced last night, he added the selection process for choosing the final set of players was a challenging one.
“A lot of our players want to represent Fiji in the World Cup and they’re showing that in their training and their playing,” he said.
“It’s been a challenge for us as coaches but we’re pleased with where we are.”
The team will leave for England this week.
