THE Vanua o Betoraurau (Sabeto) Environment Committee and manager for the Department of Environment West are gathering more information on the circumstances surrounding the discovery of dead fish floating in the Waimalika river, Sabeto yesterday.
Committee chairman of Don Natabe said the manager for the Department of Environment west confirmed a team had been sent to investigate the discovery.
“They will provide more information as we get the details from their team. We’ve also contacted the provincial conservation officer for the Ba Provincial Council,” he said.
“We’ve also organised a team to also attempt to see the incident in Waimalika. At this time, we do not have much information.”
Environment Minister Mosese Bulitavu confirmed receiving a report at the west office following the discovery.
“A team has been deployed to the Waimalika River to inspect and investigate the issue,” Bulitavu said.
