Twelve villages in Rewa will soon be connected to the mainland through a new government-funded bridge project.

This was announced at the Rewa Provincial Council meeting in Nadave recently.

Council chairman Ro Macanawai Mataitini confirmed the long-awaited Rewa-Vutia infrastructure initiative has received government approval and funding for the new financial year.

“The Rewa-Vutia project is a major project,” Ro Macanawai said.

“Rewa’s roads have been developed, except for Rewa island.

“About 12 villages are on the island and we are thankful this government has approved.

“It is in the budget and in the new financial year called the Rewa-Vutia project, under which they will build a bridge from Nasali river to Nabua Village and it will link the twelve villages up to the last village in Vutia.”

The bridge is expected to significantly improve accessibility, transport, and service delivery for hundreds of residents living in the island communities of Rewa.
